Canada’s first ever “tooth-in-eye” surgery will soon be taking place!
This procedure can actually restore vision to people who are blind.
The surgeons will remove one of the patient’s canine teeth, drill a hole in it, and then glue a small lens inside.
They will then implant the tooth inside of a pocket in the patients’ cheek, so that it can naturally form a tissue lining over three month’s time.
They will then remove the tooth from the cheek and sew it onto the front of the eye.
If the surgery is successful, and if the patient’s retina and nerve at the back of their eye are healthy, then they can recover close to normal vision.
However, after all of these procedures are complete, the physical look of the patient’s eyes will be VERY different.
It won’t look like a normal eye. It will be covered with some tissue from inside the cheek or the lip. So the eye will look pink with a small dark circle in the middle.

Those who have had this surgery done in other parts of the world have naturally always opted for function over appearance.
This is ground breaking medical stuff that seems like it could be right out of science fiction…but it’s reality.
