Canadian Paralympians ready to go for gold in Paris

Canada’s para-athletes are ready to go for gold.

The Paralympics open up in Paris on Wednesday.

Canada is sending a contingent of 126 to the games, they’ll take part in 18 different sports.

Our country won five gold and 21 medals at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

For the first time, Canadian Paralympians will get paid if they make the podium.

A performance recognition program was created back in January.

Canadian Paralympians will receive $20,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze.

It is equal to the amount Olympian’s receive for reaching the podium.

The games run until September 8.
