Charges laid in Sioux Lookout investigation

Charges have been laid after a stolen vehicle investigation in Sioux Lookout, according to OPP.

Officers were called to a local grocery store for an attempted theft shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.

The person fled the store in a vehicle, which investigators later determined had been stolen.

Shortly after, police received a call about a single-vehicle crash involving the same vehicle on Highway 72.

The driver, who OPP allege was impaired, was arrested and taken to the Dryden detachment for testing.

A 26-year-old from Kasabonika First Nation is charged with dangerous operation, impaired operation, robbery with violence and motor vehicle theft.

They were held for a bail hearing and remanded to the Kenora District Jail. The accused is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday.
