City council ready to pass 2024 municipal budget

The City of Kenora’s 2024 municipal budget could finally be passed today.

Council has held at least nine meeting over the past four months.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says it’s been a difficult process to bring any budget increase down.

“Kudos to everybody for sticking with it, chipping away at it and trying to get it to a reasonable number,” says Poirier.

“I’m not going to presuppose anything before a vote but that’s kind of where we landed at 3.11 percent now. Which is, in all discussions with kinds of other municipalities, that was one of the lower one’s I heard.”

The increase would be down a full percentage point from earlier this month.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 5:00 in council chambers.
