Council still undecided about sewer and water rate increase

Kenora city council is still divided about whether it should approve a higher increase in the Sewer and Water rates next year.

The increase could be anywhere from 4.65 percent to 8.8 percent.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says he’s received a lot of complaints about the increase and people can’t afford a higher increase.

On a monthly basis, an 8.8 percent increase would amount to about $13.25 more.

Council will vote on the Capital Budget, Sewer and Water and Solid Waste budget next week.

Councillors also have the option of deferring those budgets until their next special budget meeting at the end of November.
