Deer Lake woman faces charges in fatal house fire

A resident of Deer Lake First Nation faces several charges related to a fatal house fire in that remote community in October 2023.

The 28-year-old woman is to make a court appearance on three charges of criminal negligence causing death and two charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Three people died and two others were injured in the fire in Deer Lake.

The investigation revealed it started after fireworks were set off inside the home.

The woman accused has since been released and is to make a court appearance at the end of November.
