Dryden gets more than expected in policing rebate

The City of Dryden is more than pleased with it’s policing rebate for 2025.

The province announced a rebate for rural and northern municipalities late last month.

Mayor Jack Harrison say the rebate was larger than he expected.

“We will be receiving $1.28 million for the City of Dryden for 2025 to help us reduce our police costs,” reveals Harrison.

“What this will do is bring our police costs…basically eliminate that increase that we were staring down. It will keep us around our 2024 policing costs.”

Harrison adds they still have the highest policing costs, per household in Ontario, even with the rebate.

“Which is still quite considerably high. But this will enable us to approve a very reasonable budget for 2025, which will be extremely important.”

The City of Dryden had received a bill for OPP service that was 19 percent higher next year than it was this year.
