Dryden tire company faces hefty fine

A tire company from Dryden has been fined $55,000 for a workplace injury.

KK Penner Tire Centers had sent an employee to repair a couple of skidder tires at a logging worksite in Atikokan in July of 2024.

While inflating one of the tires, it exploded causing critical injuries to the worker.

The Ministry of Labour determine the worker was within the “dangerous trajectory zone” of the skidder’s wheel assembly.

It says the company failed to take a reasonable precaution of developing a safety procedure for servicing the skidder’s wheel assembly.

In addition to the fine, the company has been ordered to pay a 25 percent victim surcharge fee.
