School boards are being reminded about meeting their obligations.
Ontario’s Education Minister is keeping a close eye on them as they prepare for the opening of classes next week.
Legislation passed in the spring gives Paul Calandra the power to step in if necessary.
He has already appointed supervisors at five school boards because of concerns over spending and mismanagement.
In a release, the Ministry states the government’s continued focus is on upholding public trust while building an accountable and well-supported public education system.
“Our goal is clear: To provide students with the opportunity to succeed and grow, and ensure teachers have the resources and environment they need to inspire learning and help students thrive,” states Calandra.
“We will continue to invest in safe, modern schools while strengthening accountability and transparency across Ontario’s education system to ensure that every dollar invested is preparing students with practical skills for good-paying, stable careers.”
The province says $30.3 billion is being invested in education this year.
