An evacuation order affecting some residents in northwestern Ontario is being lifted as wildfire conditions continue to improve across parts of the region.
According to Ontario’s Fire Information Map, the evacuation order for some areas near Thunder Bay and Dryden will be lifted effective at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20.
At the same time, the province is reporting two new wildfires in the Kenora district, both of which are burning out of control.
One of the fires is located near Highway 17, while the other is near the south end of Ord Lake, which is about 17 kilometres east of Highway 105.
Despite the new fire starts, Ontario says there are currently 78 active wildfires across the northwest region as of Wednesday, August 19, down from more than 100 reported last week.
The province continues to monitor conditions as firefighting efforts remain underway across the region.
