SUMMARY:A conversation with Rick Westhead
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Shelter\, Saakaate House is excited to welcome award-winning investigative journalist Rick Westhead to Kenora on March 4. Women’s Shelter Saakaate House is bringing Rick to our community as part of our violence prevention work and as a wrap-up to the 2025–2026 Coaching Boys Into Men program season.\nRick is also the author of We Breed Lions\, a powerful investigative book that examines the culture of hockey in Canada. The book explores how a sport that is deeply loved across the country has also been shaped by serious issues\, including abuse\, hazing\, and sexual misconduct\, while examining how systems and institutions sometimes protected reputations over people. Drawing on survivor stories\, player experiences\, and major hockey investigations\, the book gives voice to those who have been harmed while also highlighting the growing movement to create safer\, more respectful\, and accountable sport environments.\nThis will be a free community event\, and we are currently looking for sponsors to help make it possible. If you or your organization are interested in supporting this important conversation and community learning opportunity\, we would love to have you on board. Please reach out to learn more about sponsorship opportunities!\nThis is a free\, ticketed event\nhttps://simpli.events/e/lions
