Federal budget to be delivered Tuesday afternoon

All eyes are on Ottawa as the federal Liberal government prepare to release its latest budget on Tuesday.

However, we already have a good idea about some of the items that will be featured in the 2024-25 budget.

The Trudeau government has been touring the country in recent weeks making a series of pre-budget announcements.

Billions of dollars have been promised for housing, a national school food program and national defence, among other things.

The Liberals also unveiled a housing plan last week with a promise to build nearly 3.9-million homes by 2031.

What remains to be seen, however, is how the federal government plans to pay for these new promises.

The federal government’s fall economic statement projected a deficit of $38.4 billion for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will deliver the budget in the House of Commons around 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
