Update: Highways reopen, but fires spread across northwest

12 forest fires continue to burn near Kenora, Ignace, Fort Frances, and beyond.

The provincial Ministry of Natural Resources announced on Saturday afternoon that a fire near Ignace known as Dryden 11 has spread across more than 150 hectares and remains not under control.

Forest fires can be monitored via the provincial fire map.

Highways 599 and 617 are now open again, after being closed on Friday due to the forest fires.

Road closures can be monitored online.
