The Northern Reach Rescue Network (NRRN) is looking for foster families to help care for pets displaced by wildfire evacuations across northwestern Ontario.
With many hotels and evacuation centres unable to accept animals, pets are being placed in temporary homes while their owners focus on finding shelter and navigating the evacuation process.
The NRRN is helping connect those pets with foster families and coordinating transportation to volunteers throughout the region.
“At times like this, we do pretty much everything we can to help as many people and pets stay together as families,” said NRRN volunteer Paul Bishop. “If we the community can step up and open our homes, that would be absolutely amazing.”
Bishop says donations of food and pet supplies are also appreciated for those unable to take on a foster animal.
“We’re supplying [pet] food to the hotels and to all the people coming in from these communities,” he said. “There’s little things like picking up and dropping off supplies that we could really use some assistance with as well.”
Anyone in northwestern Ontario interested in fostering a pet, volunteering, or making a donation is encouraged to contact the Northern Reach Rescue Network through its Facebook page.
