Funding available for Ring of Fire regional assessment

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is making funding available to individuals and organizations who wish to participate in a regional assessment in the Ring of Fire area.

The IAAC and working group, made up of representatives from several First Nations, are overseeing the assessment.

They include Aroland, Attawapiskat, Constance Lake, Eabametoong, Fort Albany, Ginoogaming, Kashechewan, Long Lake #58, Marten Falls, Missanabie Cree First Nation, Moose Cree First Nation, Neskantaga, Nibinamik, Webequie and Weenusk.

Matawa and Mushkegowuk Councils are providing administrative support.

The purpose of the regional assessment is to provide information on key priorities of importance and identify the potential positive and negative effects development activities may have.

The regional assessment may be used in future impact assessments and decisions in the Ring of Fire area.

Eligible participants seeking funding must apply before July 21st.

The working group is also planning virtual information sessions to answer questions about participant funding and the opportunities for further participation during the assessment.

Sign-up for notifications is done on the assessment webpage located on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry.

You can also email the IAAC at regionalrof-cdfregionale@iaac-aeic.gc.ca to be alerted of the dates and times of the upcoming information sessions.
