Multiple crashes on Hwy 17, OPP advising stay home if possible

Kenora OPP is reporting Highway 17 from the Manitoba border to east of Dryden has become snowpacked and icy making travel dangerous.

Earlier today the bypass around Kenora was closed due to a collision. Traffic was down to one lane for a few hours due to a collision in Vermilion Bay and this afternoon a crash near Dinorwic, east of Dryden caused a closure.

The OPP says its officers are currently responding to a high number of collisions and disabled vehicles as blowing snow and freezing temperatures continue to create hazardous driving conditions. Police are advising against non-essential travel at this time. If you have to drive you should reduce speed, increase space with the vehicle in front of you and make sure your vehicle is cleared of snow and ice.
