Hospital holds ribbon cutting for Diagnostic Center of Excellence

Lake of the Woods District Hospital has officially opened its Diagnostic Center of Excellence.

The new suite is housing the hospital’s MRI unit.

Dr. Catherine Murray is the Radiologist and Diagnostic Imaging Service Lead at the hospital and says they have been using the MRI to do testing before it is officially available to local doctors.

“We’re currently in our applications testing, so we’re making sure all the sequences are correct…we have no issues with our coils…things like that,” Dr. Murray said following the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.

“So, we’ve scanning a lot of different parts. We’ve done brain imaging, spine imaging, body imaging.”

Sean Hailstone is the Director of Diagnostic Imaging and says it’s amazing to have an MRI up and running.

“We did have some delays in the project, but I think eight months from going start to finish to an operational horizon is an incredible achievement. All of the local contractors stepped up extremely to ensure we met these timelines.”

An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday.

The MRI is officially expected to be ready for daily use on September 8th.
