Influenza outbreak at Pinecrest expands

The influenza outbreak at the Pinecrest Home for the Aged in Kenora has spread.

Initially it was just affecting three patients in Unit 3.

But now administration says four residents are affected and there are two more cases in Unit 4.

Pinecreast says it has a mandatory masking policy in place and there is a strict policy of using PPE when entering an isolation room.

In the meantime, the Tuck Shop has been closed for the duration of the outbreak, but a travelling “Tuck Cart” is being provided.

Other measures to limit the spread of the flu include:

  • Unit 3 and Unit 4 residents are permitted 2 essential visitors until further notice
  • All large group activities are cancelled for Unit 3 and Unit 4, modified activities to be hosted
  • Increased high touch cleaning for the entire building

If you are feeling unwell, Pinecrest asks you not to visit.
