Evacuation plans for Kashechewan First Nation have been delayed after improvements to the community’s water system.
Chief and Council are monitoring the performance of the water treatment plant, which is now producing water, and will decide within 48 hours whether an evacuation is necessary.
A coordination meeting with the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre is set for December 15 to determine the next steps.
Flights originally scheduled for the weekend have been cancelled but could be rescheduled for early next week if required. Thunder Bay officials say they are ready to assist if an evacuation is needed.
Further updates are expected after Sunday’s meeting.
