I want to start this off with stating that you can be any age and learn how play Pickleball. We proved it on Monday afternoon when Moe Girard and his sister-in-law Eleanor Johnston joined us for a little pickleball fun. It wasn’t too long watching us, that they wanted to join in. Both of them are in their early 80’s and had never played before. Ruth Girard was busy helping others to learn a new musical instrument so she couldn’t make it. Moe and Eleanor could get the ball over the net… chasing it around the court was a harder task !!! The next time we get together, I will bring my guitar and Ruth can bring any one of her musical instruments. We can do a “Pickleball Serenade” while the others are playing Pickleball.
Wednesday Morning Ladders: Here are the Group scores from this morning’s games. Murray Bamforth… undefeated in Group 1.. You are playing very well. I will have to return to Group 1 and bring Murray down to my level next week !! Blake Stockham won Group 2 by one point over James Tkachyk. John Brugelis was 2 points behind James… pretty close games. Cindy Wilson told me she was in the running for first place then got defeated 11-2 in her final game… ouch. In Group 3, Claudine Cordeiro lost one game 11-10 to win the group. She wants to move up to Group 2. In Group 4, Marian Hutchings onlylost one game11 -10 and took top spot. She will be moving into Group 3 next week.
Marian Hutchings is our winner of the “Boston Pizza” Player of the Day. Marian is heading over to Italy soon so she can compare her winning Pizza from Boston Pizza to one made in Italy.
Wednesday Evening Ladders: We had 5 courts ladders this week. And at the end of the night, winners were
Dean Dubreuil and Wendy Tseng won against Korelle McDonald and Joel Requeima.
The “901 Westside” Player of the Day was 2 time top court winner Wendy Tseng! Congratulations Wendy! I would say she is the most improved player of the summer. She is getting better and better.
Thursday Morning Ladders: We were a bit short on players this week with only 20 members making it out to play on a nice sunny morning with no wind interference. This gave an opportunity for some players to move up into stronger groups and show their skills. Group 1 had Murray Bamforth finish 2 points ahead of Darryl Desrosiers for top spot. In group 2 it was Carmen Maginet in the top spot winning 6 out of 7 games. Orlo Mejia finished in top spot in Group 3.
There were some players that played well today and made some significant move upward. Gill DesRoches moved up 7 spots, Rolanda Peacock up 5 spots. Both Brenda Tkachyk and Sharon Wazney moved up 8 spots this week. This will shake up the group make up next week. That is your reward for showing up when other members do not make it out.
