The City of Kenora is getting a bit more money for policing in 2024.
The funding was confirmed this week at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto.
Mayor Andrew Poirier says the extra money will help reduce their taxes.
“Some of it is going back to taxpayers in relief, which I think is a good thing,” said Poirier after he returned from ROMA this week.”
“Some of it is going to other initiatives, which I believe, will be laid out in our budget meeting.”
Poirier says the money is one top of a 5 percent rebate that’s already been announced for the city and is more than the city received last year of help offset policing costs.
“It’s a little bit higher because it’s a percentage, so we’re dealing with a larger amount of money. We’re dealing in percentages now and not a specifically amounts. He (the Solicitor General) said in some point in time there will be an announcement.”
City council is expected to pass it’s municipal budget on Monday during a special meeting.
