KPDSB files Capital wish list to the province

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is submitting three projects for consideration to the Ministry of Education.

Director of Education Christy Radbourne says they would like to create a school campus featuring both an elementary and a secondary school in Kenora.

“One for Valleyview and the replacement school would have our French Immersion, as well as the Native-language stream,”

“The replacement schools for Beaver Brae and Valleyview…both are antiquated buildings, and both have extreme difficulties in bringing them up to code in terms of accessibility.”

Radbourne adds they tried to get funding to renovate Valleyview a couple of years ago but were unsuccess.

She’s hoping that this time, the Ministry of Education is able to see their vision.

“This is definitely a reconfiguration. Valleyview is one of our schools that is fully utilized and then some. Our other schools are not. We’ve been working through these agreements the Kenora District Services Board. Both of these projects will have childcare.”

Radbourne says they would also like to do some renovations at Ignace Public School and make it a more manageable size for the number of students they have there.
