If Halloween had a cozy community setting, this was it. On Friday, Kenora turned two parking lots into candy-filled wonderlands, and wow! Did the costumes and creativity deliver!
The day kicked off at Grand Council Treaty 3, where families soaked up the sunshine from 2–4 p.m. Little superheroes, witches, and dinosaurs strolled trunk to trunk, filling their buckets without the usual door-to-door marathon. It was all smiles, laughter, and plenty of sugar rush potential.
Then, as the sun dipped, the spooky vibes shifted to the Rideout Community Club for round two. From 5–7 p.m., the lot was buzzing with decorated cars, a parade of kids in every costume imaginable, a few parents who clearly couldn’t resist joining the fun, and some seriously impressive trunk themes.
I was there broadcasting live on 89.5 The Lake from 5–6 p.m., joined by Talia Saley from the Lake Morning Show, and Arcade Zilinski (and his endless supply of dad jokes!) We chatted with families, admired costumes, and sampled a mini chocolate bar or two (purely for research purposes, of course!).
But this event was more than candy and chocolate. It was about connecting with our neighbours. It was about kids showing off their costumes, and everyone sharing in the fun. It’s the kind of night that reminds you why Kenora does community so well.
