Lake Morning Show: Cyber Security Awareness Month

If you just found out by reading the headline, yes, October is indeed Cyber Security Awareness Month in Canada and St. Thomas Aquinas High School is participating.

They’ve been posting tips throughout October to spread awareness, and tip No. 4 from this week is “spotting online scams.” The main points they highlight are: don’t click on suspicious links, don’t share personal information and if you’re not sure, ask someone you can trust.

I think learning this early in school is so important. I don’t think I ever grew up learning much about cybersecurity but it’s getting harder to detect, even if you know what a scam looks like. It’s so easy to get scammed, whether you click on a link or download an app. We have to be diligent with everything and anything that we interact with online.

We should all take this month to be extra careful, change up some passwords that haven’t been updated in a while and maybe add extra protection like two-factor authentication!
