Man shot dead by police on Wapekeka First Nation

A man has died after being shot by a Sioux Lookout OPP officer on Wapekeka First Nation.

OPP says officers “interacted” with a man armed with a knife during the noon hour on Thursday.

“During the interaction, an officer discharged their firearm,” OPP said in a news release.

The armed man died at the scene from his injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit is now investigating.
