As a strike enters its third day for the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, WestJet airlines has canceled 424 flights for Sunday.
Since the strike began Friday, a total of 832 flights WestJet flights in Canada have been canceled, according to a news release from the airline company.
Before heading to the airport, travelers should check the status of their flight, the airline said.
“WestJet will operate a reduced schedule with the remaining fleet for as long as the labour action continues,” the company wrote.
“We continue to hold our view that the current strike serves no purpose other than to inflict maximum damage to our airline and the country. WestJet is in receipt of a binding arbitration order and await urgent clarity from the government that a strike and arbitration cannot exist simultaneously; this is something they have committed to address and like all Canadians we are waiting.”
In a statement on their website, the union said the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled their strike is legal, even though Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan Jr. ordered “compulsory arbitration.”
“Until that process is completed, we are entitled to continue our legal strike,” the union wrote.
