The provincial government is being asked to support the a victim assistance position in Dryden.
Beverly Derouard is the executive director Victim Services for Kenora and Area and says the Dryden area, which includes Ignace and Red Lake, has over a third of their calls.
She’s asking the City of Dryden to endorse the victim service position.
“I am respectfully requesting your support in an official request to the Ministry (of the Attorney General) for immediate funding to have a full time victim advocate in the City of Dryden,” said Derouard in her deputation to city council.
She adds there’s a real need for the service in the region.
“Your endorsement will underscore the importance of this initiative and reenforce the collective commitment to ensure equitable access to victim services for Dryden residents.”
Derouard says it’s important to have a victim services presence in the community, that is separate from the police.
