Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor to spend 3 days in Kenora area

The itinerary for Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor’s visit to Kenora has been revealed.

Edith Dumont is making her first visit to the community since her appointment in 2023.

A release from her office states it will provide her an opportunity to strengthen relationships with local and Indigenous leaders while learning from organizations advancing reconciliation, restorative justice, youth wellness, community leadership and regional collaboration.

She is scheduled to arrive on Sunday and will take part in private engagements.

On Monday, she will visit Kenora City Hall to meet with municipal staff and hold a private meeting with Mayor Andrew Poirier.

She will then travel to the Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre for a community reception that will include municipal, Indigenous, healthcare and community leaders from across the region.

The mayors of Kenora and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, along with Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, are also attending.

On Tuesday, Dumont will visit the Kenora Justice Centre to learn about its Indigenous-led restorative justice model.

She wraps up the tour with a stop at Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth & Family Wellness Camp, where she will meet with campers, staff and community leaders to learn how the camp supports youth wellness, healing, cultural connection and community-building.

The Lieutenant Governor will depart Kenora later that afternoon.
