Update: One person arrested in OPP standoff north of Red Lake

A person has been arrested following a police standoff north of Red Lake.

The incident was at a remote camp at Little Vermilion Lake.

The incident began around 7:15 a.m. Monday, when Ontario Provincial Police received reports of an armed person who had barricaded themselves inside a cabin.

Officers cordoned off the area and negotiated with the person to resolve the situation peacefully.

Crisis negotiators, an Emergency Response Team, a canine unit and Tactical Emergency Medical Services were brought in.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., OPP announced an individual was safely apprehended.

They are now facing several firearm-related charges.

Public access to the lake has also been reopened.

A criminal investigation into the matter is still taking place.
