Poirier points to some signs for optimism in 2025

There is some good news on the horizon for the City of Kenora.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says there’s been increasing building activity and that’s helping the city’s bottom line.

“In 2025, the tax rolls have increased by several hundred thousand dollars, I think that three hundred and some thousand dollars,” Poirier points out in a year-end interview.

“That’s a start, and that is what I look at as a benchmark for success going forward as far as new ventures.”

Poirier says projects that are on the books may take a few years to come to fruition and get them on the tax rolls.

“Things are beginning to happen. Hopefully over the next couple of years, going into another council, those things will come to fruition. Because bricks and mortar take time. Once you start any particular building of any size, you’re a year and a half to two years, once you actually construct. Then they come on the tax rolls.”

Poirier says at least one large housing project will come on-line this year, with a new 56-unit seniors complex set to open early in 2025.
