Poirier to update council on Strong Mayor powers

The mayor of Kenora says he wants to find out what all is involved with being a strong mayor.

The province announced last week, 169 municipalites will join the list with strong mayor powers.

That includes Kenora.

Strong mayor powers are designed to make it easier and quicker to make decisions about housing and infrastructure projects.

Andrew Poirier says he has some ideas of what he would like to do, but he wants to put the ideas before the rest of council first.

He adds that he’s doesn’t plan to use the powers arbitrarily, that’s why he wants to find out what involved first.

Poirier says he has asked that the Strong Mayors initiative be put on the agenda for Tuesday’s open meeting.
