Police seek public’s help in solving copper wire theft in Kenora area

Provincial police are investigating damage to communication lines and the theft of copper wire in the Kenora area.

Bell Canada discovered the damaged lines along the railroad tracks near Transmitter Road in mid-June.

Sections of copper line were cut, and a transformer was damaged.

A cutting tool was also found still lodged in the cable.

Police say an alert of a service disruption led workers to find the damage.

It is believed that additional wire may have been taken over a long period, with a more recent cut triggering the alert.

No arrests have yet been made.

OPP are asking anyone who may have observed suspicious activity in the area of Transmitter Road or the nearby rail line, or has information related to the incident, to contact the OPP’s Kenora detachment.
