Premier Ford encourages applications for funding

A new round of funding is available for the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.

Premier Doug Ford made the announcement at the Association of Municipalities conference in Ottawa Monday morning.

“We increase the fund to $500 million dollars and today I’m thrilled to announce that the next round applications for the fund is open right now.”

Ford also says the $1 billion Housing Enabling Fund announced yesterday will be open for applications starting on October 29th.

That’s for communities that don’t have development charges and need to build infrastructure for new housing can be built.

Ford adds that with the Ring of Fire development and all the forest fires this summer, communities in the north need better airport infrastructure.

“The first thing I believe you need…you need a runway that is paved until you can larger planes in there. God forbid these wildfires continue…we (need) to get everyone out. We’re on the exact same page book. We need to start paving these runways.”

Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa has been pushing the provincial government for a number of years now to improve the condition of First Nation runways.
