Premier Ford is defending an ad campaign that featured former President Ronald Reagan on tariffs.
It aired over the weekend, finding prominence during the World Series broadcast.
U.S. President Trump halted trade talks with Canada because of it, saying tariffs on Canadian goods would also increase by another $10%.
Facing opposition questions at Queen’s Park, Ford offered no apology.
“My job is to protect the people of Ontario. That’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m going to continue protecting Ontario,” says Ford.
The Premier also calls the campaign one of the most successful ever, suggesting it was seen by at least one billion people.
“And it’s still counting from around the world. I was getting calls from people who had relatives in India, Portugal, Italy, Scotland. Every outlet, small, large, medium, in the US was talking about the conversation about it’s better to get rid of any of the tariffs.”
The opposition argues the campaign has cost the province jobs.
Ford responded by saying he was never going to take a back seat to President Trump and would never take a back seat to the opposition.
Ford previously indicated that the campaign was costing Ontario $75 million, a figure he denied when responding to opposition questions on Monday.
