RCMP make a huge seizure of illegal cigarettes at the border

The Manitoba RCMP say they have seized about $3 million worth of illegal cigarettes.

On May 29th, around 1:40 pm, a transport was stopped at the West Hawk Lake weigh scales.

An inspection of the truck found 781 cases of contraband tobacco.

Each case contained 50 cartons or 10,000 cigarettes for a total seizure of over 39,050 cartons or 7.8 million cigarettes.

A 40 year old driver from Brooks, Alberta and a 70 year old from Toronto were arrested for trafficking contraband cigarettes.

The fine is over $8.3 million…$7,029,000 from the Provincial of Manitoba and an additional Excise Tax (Federal) fine of $1,327,700.
