Re-use center proposed for Kenora’s Transfer Station

Efforts to get a reuse center up and running in the City of Kenora have been revived.

The Sustainability Advisory Committee has made the recommendation as part of their budget presentation to city council.

Craig Debbo is chair of the committee and says it would only operate during the summer.

“We’re looking for a safe, dry location, covered, for furniture and so on,” Debbo explained to Kenora city council recently in the first of their budget meetings.

“Lockable at night…2,000 to 5,000 square feet roughly.”

Debbo says under their proposal, the re-use center would be located at the Waste Transfer Station and be operated by summer students.

“We’re looking at it as a first come, first serve. So, it’s drop off, available for pick up. We’re not looking at traveling out secure materials…not looking at delivering. Trying to keep the model relatively simple.”

A previous attempt to set up a re-use center was shot down by this council last March.
