Restricted Fire Zone lifted for much of NWO, highways reopened

As wildfire activity dies down and many evacuees begin to head home, the Ministry of Natural Resources has lifted the restricted fire zone in most of northwestern Ontario.

Valid burning permits will be reinstated, and open-air burning, including campfires, recreational fires and fireworks, will all be allowed.

The fire ban in Thunder Bay will be lifted at 5:00 p.m. Thursday night. Residents are reminded that all outdoor burning require permits in the city.

The travel ban in the Armstrong and Whitesand First Nation area has been lifted, and residents can now return home.

Travel and the use of all roads and lakes in the area are now permitted. Highway 527 and Highway 811 are fully open again.
