SIJHL hands out hardware

A former member of the Kenora U18 AAA Thistles has been named Forward of the Year in the SIJHL.

Jett Mintenko of the Kam River Fighting Walleye led league in assists with 52 and was second in scoring with 82 points.

He also added 30 goals, which was third best in the league.

In the meantime, Dryden GM Ice Dogs Coach and GM Jake Gushue has been named the SIJHL’s Coach of the Year.

The Ice Dogs finished first in the league standings this year, after placing 4th last year, with only seven returning players.

Goalie of the Year: Kellan Mooney of the Ice Dogs

Rookie of the Year: Evan Simeoni of the Thunder Bay North Stars

Defensive Forward of the Year: Matthew MacPherson of the Red Lake Miners

Most Improved Player: Gunner Paradis of the Fort Frances Lakers

Defenseman of the Year: Evan Kabel of the Fort Frances Lakers

Community Ambassador Award: Keenan Marks of the Thunder Bay North Stars

Scholastic Achievement Award: Jack Hanna of the Ironwood Lumberjacks
