SIU clears Sioux Lookout OPP officer

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has cleared an OPP officer of any wrongdoing after a man was struck several times by ARWEN rounds in Sioux Lookout.

The ARWEN is a non-lethal weapon.

The SIU says the OPP were called out back in February to a robbery in the Queen Street area.

Police attempted to arrest a suspect, who was brandishing a machete.

He refused to drop the knife, and an officer used the ARWEN.

The SIU says the officer acted reasonably and the firearm worked as intended, incapacitating the suspect.
