SIU clears two OPP officers in Pickle Lake

The Ontario Special Investigation Unit says two OPP officers at the Pickle Lake Detachment were not responsible for the death of a 59-year-old man.

On September 11th, 2024, the OPP were dispatched to the Northern Store to deal with several intoxicated individuals.

One man fell and hit his head on the ground.

He showed no sign of medical distress, so he was taken to the Pickle Lake Detachment.

Later on, he had trouble breathing and was gasping for air.

He was eventually taken to Thunder Bay Hospital, where he later passed away.

The SIU determined the officers did not commit a criminal offense in connection to his death.
