Stats Canada reports record population growth in Q3

Canada’s population surged by over 430,000 in the third quarter, the highest quarterly growth since 1957, according to Statistics Canada’s latest release.

As of October 1, the national population surpassed 40.5 million.

Notably, the cumulative growth in the first nine months of this year has already exceeded the total growth in any previous full year, including the record set in 2022.

The report attributes this unprecedented growth primarily to international migration, with non-permanent residents accounting for the majority of the increase.

Over the three-month period, approximately 313,000 non-permanent residents joined the Canadian population, driven largely by work and study permit holders, and to a lesser extent, refugee claimants.
