Teacher in Webequie First Nation facing sexual assault of minor charges

An investigation into sexual assault in Webequie First Nation has led to charges against a teacher.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers in the community began an investigation into allegations of sexual assault against a minor in September.

Police learned the suspect was a teacher in the community who had allegedly assaulted a 15-year-old.

Through the investigation an arrest warrant was executed on Sunday morning and the suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation a 26-year-old Holland Landing resident is facing the following charges:

  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age
  • Sexual interference

“The investigation into these accusations continues,” said the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service in a release. “Investigators urge anyone who may have information or may have been a victim or know of possible victims, to contact the NAPS Northwest Crime Unit at (807) 623-2161 ext. 6114.”

The accused remains in custody with a future court date.
