Temporary layoffs for striking Canada Post workers

Some striking Canada Post workers have been laid off.

In a statement to our newsroom, Canada Post spokesperson Phil Rogers says the layoffs are temporary.

He says expired collective agreements no longer apply, and the terms for employees have changed.

Rogers adds they hope to reach an agreement soon to help everyone move forward.

No word on how many layoffs have taken place.

About 55,000 CUPW workers have been on strike for weeks, with no end in sight.

In a newsletter to members, CUPW says it’s a scare tactic by management.
