Tentative deal reached in LCBO workers strike

Ontario liquor stores could reopen as early as next Tuesday.

The Liquor Control Board of Ontario says it has reached a tentative deal with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

No details are being immediately released.

The LCBO says pending a ratification vote, the strike could end Monday at 12:01 a.m., with stores reopening the following day.

“LCBO is now working to prepare our people and operations to return to business as usual. LCBO retail locations will open for in-store shopping on Tuesday, July 23, 2024,” reads a statement from the LCBO.

“We look forward to welcoming our unionized employees back to work in service of Ontarians.”

Nearly 10,000 unionized workers walked off the job on July 5th.

The government’s planned expansion of alcohol sales to convenience and more big-box stores was one of the key issues.
