Remember when Friday night started at the video rental store? You didn’t “browse.” You wandered.
You judged movies by the cover, negotiated with your friends, and somehow left with something you’d actually watch.
Now, you’re probably paying for six or seven streaming services and still spending thirty minutes scrolling like it’s cardio.
And then the algorithm keeps saying, “Because you watched one cooking show, here are 47 more… forever.”
Streaming is convenient—no question. But the video store had something we’re missing: a ritual. A beginning, a decision, and a commitment.
One movie. One night. No endless menu.
So… do you think video rental stores are going to make a comeback? Or am I just feeling nostalgic? Let me, Caleb, know on the Afternoon Drive, Mon-Fri, 2-6pm, only on 89.5 the Lake.
