Tractor trailer fire closes Highway 17 east temporarily

The OPP say no one was injured in a tractor-trailer fire on Highway 17 east of Kenora.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon near Bee Lake.

The driver was able to get out of the truck safely.

Strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire resulting in the tractor unit becoming fully engulfed.

The trailer was carrying a load of styrofoam, but it did not catch on fire.

The Machin Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to the trailer.

Highway 17 had to be closed temporarily due to the heavy, black smoke, creating a visibility hazard.
