Triple Play bringing Jets alumni back to town

The Winnipeg Jets Alumni are returning to Kenora later this month to play a charity hockey game.

Triple Play, who is working with the Jets alumni, has a full weekend aimed at children’s mental health.

Barry Reynard is executive director and says they are planning to implement Project 11 with the Jets.

“The Rally for Children’s Mental Health became such a big issue for us,” explains Reynard.

“It’s an opportunity to bring awareness to the community, to do some sport celebration around the game, to do community engagement work with our school boards and our First Nations partners, around Project 11.”

Project 11 is in memory of former Jet Rick Rypien, who died by suicide.

Reynard adds they have a whole weekend of activities surrounding the game.

“So, there are a number of moving parts that create the events, that in the end, pay for everything we’re trying to do, that also leaves a legacy for us to continue working with our school board and our children, to make it a great event.”

Reynard says in addition to a gala, there will be scrimmages and opportunities to skate with some of the former Jets and also a former female Olympic hockey player.

The actual hockey game featuring the Winnipeg Jets alumni will take place on October 18th.
