Two awarded medals for bravery

Two Kenora area men have received medals for bravery from the Governor General.

It’s to do with a lifesaving incident back in January or 2018.

A man had fall through the ice, and Michael Neniska from Longbow Lake and Robert Edlund were cited for rescuing him.

They initially took their snowmobiles out, but after several failed attempts using a rope, the crawled along the thin ice as it cracked under their weight.

After reaching the hold they were able to pull the man out of the freezing water.

The medals were handed out today.
