Two groups have different feelings on DGR designation

Mixed reaction to the federal government decision to add the Deep Geological Repository between Ignace and the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation to the list of projects of National Interest.

We the Nuclear Free North calls it a betrayal of public trust and is vehemently opposed the government’s initiative.

It’s concerned the full public Impact Assessment of the Project, which is currently underway, would be discontinued.

Meanwhile, the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association says it welcomes the government’s decision to potentilly list the DGR as as project of national interest.

But NOMA is calling on the federal and Ontario governments to work together to identify priority areas for expansion, twinning and safety improvements.
