Unemployment rate up in August

Unemployment is up in our country.

StatsCan says the rate rose to 6.6 percent in August, after holding steady in July.

It’s the highest rate since May 2017, outside of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unemployment is up 1.5 percentage points since April of last year.

There were 1.5 million people without a job last month, that’s up by 60,000 since July and over 272,000 over last year.
